Heavy rain at the start of this eagerly awaited annual fixture delighted the farmers that were playing, moreso than the considerable crowd that had to seek shelter in the dugouts! Bury began the game in confident mood and soon pushed forward with some fine passing. However, with Trevor Denison and Brian Woolcott linking well for LX, it led to Peter Glading scoring well from close range.
However, Bury responded immediately with a magnificent goal from Robert Dyball who beat Cliff Peck in the LX goal with a great rising shot.
For the rest of the half, some fine hockey was played by both teams, Norman Ballard and Adrian Moulam linking well and creating good chances for Bury.
In the second half Bury continued to press and with fresh energy from Mark Dykes, Jerry Herod and Marcus Skillern, Bury created some fine chances but Cliff Peck in goal made some magnificent saves. Peter Newnham and Peter Wright were in determined mood in the heart of the LX defence and Bury had to settle for a draw in a fine game of Masters Hockey.
