Bury St Edmunds M1 1:1 Upminster M1

Bury St Edmunds welcomed Upminster to the Walled Garden for their first home game of the season in front of an excited crowd. After naming a largely unchanged side from the one that put Colchester to the sword on the opening day of the season, Bury began the game with fluidity. They started to exert control over the game and created a few chances, the pick of the bunch being an opportunity for Jones on the reverse, but he blazed over. However, Upminster continued to battle hard in every challenge and would have capitalised on a Bury turnover, were it not for an excellent save by Wallace. Neal weathered the Upminster storm and tackled brilliantly throughout, leaving his mark on the attackers. Finally though, Bury’s dominance yielded a goal on the stroke of halftime as Campbell-Todd produced a fine finish from a penalty corner.
In the second half, Upminster came out with more intensity and pressed Bury higher up the pitch. Some fine hockey throughout the team saw Bury play through the press and were unlucky to not be rewarded with a goal. Unfortunately, Bury were to rue their missed chances as Upminster broke quickly to snatch an equaliser. Despite a late Bury surge, Upminster were happy to take a point and parked the bus to hold on for the draw. Bury continue their unbeaten start to the season and look forward to the visit of Waltham Forest next week.
