Bury fight back to earn deserved draw

Bury M1 1:1 Broxbourne M1
Bury welcomed unbeaten league-leading Broxbourne to the Walled Garden, determined to show that they have the quality to compete with the best in the division. The opening exchanges were very even, with the midfield of Noah Fenn and Ollie Whiteman getting the better of Broxbourne. However, chances were hard to come by for both sides until Broxbourne began to start throwing the ball long, leading to a sequence of penalty corners against Bury. Bury’s youthful goalkeeper, Henry Wallace, saved these well to keep the sides level. Buoyed by this, Bury went down to the other end of the pitch and won a penalty corner of their own after good work by Finn Sullivan and Matthew Jones, but this could not be converted into a goal. Will Anderson was enjoying himself, dictating the play and playing tennis with the foot of one of the Broxbourne defenders. Shockingly, Bury suffered a blow towards the end of the first half as their unflappable and talismanic defender, Finn Sullivan, suffered a horrific game-ending head injury. Despite his desperate attempts to return to the field, he was restrained and taken directly to hospital. He thanks everyone at the club for their well-wishes and hopes to be back on the pitch soon, although he may never fully recover his outrageous good looks.
The challenge was made even more difficult after Broxbourne scored from a penalty corner shortly after the restart. But this only made Bury more determined, and the defence of Tom Campbell-Todd and Rob Neil rallied to shut the door to any Broxbourne attackers. The attacking quality of Nik Ciappi and Harry Reidy began to tell, as Bury worked their way back into the game. Stu Findell and Josh Hapur worked tirelessly down the flanks and kept Broxbourne pinned back. Finally, the pressure told as James King was able to score a deserved equaliser. Bury held on for the draw to become only the second team this season to take points from Broxbourne. Bury face second-placed Upminster next week looking to improve on their fiery draw earlier this season.
