After a really promising start to a new Men’s 2s team after a win on match day 1 we went away to the old enemy Harleston Magpies. Are they from Suffolk, are they from Norfolk…no one really knows.
A young 2s team…ish…sorry Calv and Chris…started really well closing down the Magpies with fantastic work from our front line of Grisby, Chapman and Bastow meaning they couldn’t get out of their half.
Bury we’re creating some brilliant attacks through possession aided by the new formation. The wing backs (Croot and Hill) supporting both the attack and defence which helped Bury create lots of opportunities which we didn’t quite finish off.
After more pressure from Bury an opportunity finally came, Peck with a composed finish in the bottom right of the goal to calm the Bury team.Bury started even better in the 2nd half with brilliant possession starting at the back with the evergreen Calver, R Whiting and ‘alright mate’ Mitford.
Bury found themselves 2 up after a De Bruyne esque pass from the midfield general through to Grisby who finished majestically first time - a goal that would grace any World Cup.
Magpies tried the approach of quick attacks but they were quashed through brilliant work in the midfield of Charles and G Prentice. G Sullivan with some good saves to keep us with a positive scoreline.
Bury finished the game with a 2-0 win, another 3 points to begin the season with 2 for 2 and 6 points on the board.
Next week we head away to Felixstowe which I’m sure will be an interesting game.
Some brilliant performances from all members of the team but man of the match was awarded to G Prentice.
DOD was awarded to Stanton for reasons unknown, I’m guessing for being captain so an easy target. Can’t be any other reason.
We go again.
