Bury L2s knew Uni would be a tough match, having been the only team to beat the 1s so far this season - that meant hard work. On a lovely sunny day, L2s started off at a fast pace, pinning Uni back in their half for the first ten minutes. The middle of Katie Slark-Hollis, Emma Whiting and Claire Brookes were solid in maintaining the structure we needed to keep Uni out of the D, until an unexpected quick break took Uni 1-0 ahead. Susie James was given a green card and Bury used this disadvantage to reset and compose themselves before the half time whistle, leaving Bury on the wrong side of a game with only one goal scored.
L2s came into the second half, even better than the first. Dom Dyble and Jen Dahl were creating height and numerous chances in the circle, winning short corners that were well defended by Uni. After another bout of pressure, a play in the D resulted in a goal for Katie Slark-Hollis, equalising for Bury. More great linking play pressed Uni high in their 23 and one of their players also receiving a green card. With the numerical advantage another short corner was won and successfully converted by Katie Slark-Hollis. With ten minutes to go, L2s kept the pressure and height but more breaks from Uni gave them successive short corners, finally converting one to equalise. In the last moments of the game, Uni were kept from a win with hard defensive short corners from Gail Parkins, Sinead Collins, Lauren Turner and Emma Whiting, keeping the final score at 2-2.
