Result maybe didn't reflect the game

I think it fair to say both teams performed better than the previous meeting in January, although the result would suggest otherwise.
Both teams were able to put together periods of play when they denied the opposition possession.
The Bury forwards ran well into spaces and were always threatening with their pace. Konrath and Etherington in particular linked well with midfield and found ways of getting into scoring positions.
On 13 minutes a Bury shot at goal was stopped illegally (foot?) and a penalty stroke was awarded. Jerry Herod made no mistake with his flick. At the other end Barry Franklin (on loan from O60s) marshalled the Bury defence and mopped up anything loose in and around the D.
On 25 minutes Jason Etherington found space along the goal line, passed the ball into the centre and Robert Dyball (another loanee!) struck for Bury.
The second half found both teams struggling with control, and passes going astray, particularly with the O60s who were putting so much effort into getting on the scoreboard. Around half way through this second period Bury took advantage of an interception and bringing the ball forward quickly gave Tim Blackburn a chance to score and put Bury 3 goals up.
It seemed the O60s would score when John Aldridge tee'd up a shot which went waist high towards goal but Etherington (Junior) was up to the task and parried the ball away. I must add here our gratitude for 'JJ' who stood in as GK at the very last minute after Eddie was obliged to stand down.

My thanks to all the players for a worthy game, to the umpires, and to the (few) spectators who braved the weather.
