Final results are still awaited from the organisers, but Bury were the only club to field three teams for the last round of the Suffolk Youth League hosted by Felixstowe. The only club to be able to play 3 full squads is a testament in itself to the Club and the girls, but it did mean that the tournament had to play 2 Pools. Team 1 was in Pool A and Teams 2 and 3 were in Pool B.
Team 1 had the tougher grouping battling against all the other 1st teams from Sudbury, Felixstowe and IES. Pool B saw teams 2 and 3 from BSE against IES 2nd team and Ipswich.
Going into the final day at 3rd position, meant that Team 1 had an immediate uphill struggle, and sadly a then trickier start, losing narrowly with a goal literally in the last minute of each of their first two games to securing a well deserved 2-2 draw against the hosts at the end of the day.
Team 2 arrived as top of the leader board on day two and continued to play some great hockey, dominating their grouping brilliantly. Team 3, the youngest of their age group gave a great performance considering their age and size, often out playing some of the other clubs 2nd teams.
Special mentions go to players of the morning for each team (nominated by their own team mates and coaches). Team 1 was Imogen Callaghan, Team 2 was Verity Valentine and Team 3 was Lily Guirguis. However, performances from all 28 girls were incredibly noteworthy today, regardless of scores or rankings, and they should go into the Christmas break rightly proud and excited for the New Year and ‘in2s’ regional tournament.
Well Played Girls & Merry Christmas one and all!!!!
