Close game - controversial defeat
By Tim Coe
Goal chalked off at the death
The 6's travelled to IES today, with extremely blustery conditions. Again with our usual blend of experience, youth and something in between we played competitively and with confidence with end to end play, with hockey wizardry coming from Ben Smart in attack.
The deadlock was broken half way through the first half as the ball broke for IES at the top of the D for a deflected shot on goal which left Max Woods with no chance. The 6’s maintained positivity and created chances of their own, but went in at halftime 1-0 down.
Bury played much more attacking hockey in the second half creating more chances and forcing a number of penalty corners, but no joy.
Bury continued to push to the last minute culminating in a exquisite strike on goal from Simon Davies into the back of the net, we thought we had equalised, but after the umpire erroneously changed his decision under pressure from the home team claiming the ball was outside the D although clearly not. The game finished with a bitter taste. The Bury players should all be proud of their performance today.
One game left this season let’s finish on a high next Saturday.
