The U14 Girls played their 4th and penultimate fixture of the England Hockey Cup at home against not just Braintree but also the rain and the driving wind. After a focused warm up from Jet Konrath and Matt Hyndman the girls began their campaign to hold on to top spot in their group.
By half time the girls were 2-0 to the good curtesy of Zynia Deglyn and Frankie Konrath. Team talk at the break re-focused the girls, with the key take away being not to rest on their laurels (we certainly did not wish for a repeat against Hertford a few weeks ago, which ended in a nail biting draw!!).
In the second half Braintree scored early on before Josie Gooderham took the girls to 3-1. Then Braintree came back again to reduce the lead to 3-2, before Josie added to the score line taking the team to 4-2. Braintree drove hard again and closed the gap to 4-3. The girls held their composure and nerve during the last 5 mins, illustrating great character, resolve and grit to take a well deserved and vital win.
Job done for the lucky-13 who remain in top spot in Division 7 with 10 points. Next and final stop Culford again, this time against Bishops Stortford on the 24th March. Please come down and support them if you can.
