Solid home win

Bury Ladies 4s welcomed Framlingham 2s, looking to avenge an unfortunate away loss - that we don’t talk about - that has had us playing league catch up ever since.

A strong team started well, creating chances within the first few minutes, with Jen Clark scrambling the ball in from close range five minutes in. This relaxed us, maybe a little too much, as number 34’s speed and power on the ball caused some concern in an even period. Then we got wide again, found space and chances came. But Framlingham’s keeper produced a string of fine stops. This was spookily reminiscent of the not talked about first encounter, and led some to wonder whether it was going to go wrong again. Fortunately it didn’t, as the keeper was powerless to prevent Jen scoring a second from a rebound fest.

Half-time gave us time to assess things; primarily we needed to pass sooner wide where we had the advantage. Against tiring opponents this approach worked but it took time to add further goals. Bryony Reeves walked the ball in after Kathryn Mitchell passed round their keeper. Jasmine Westcott added a fourth deputising at right post on our most successful short corner routine. She then added a fifth soon after, benefitting from shooting early before the keeper could properly set. Finally birthday girl Kathryn Mitchell got her goal, a well struck corner finding the left hand side board for a final score of 6-0. Kerry Woods earned her clean sheet, saving when number 34 burst through late on.

So after three weeks of games we have no game next week because of the uneven number of teams in the division. We welcome Colchester to Culford the week after.
