Bury entered two teams into this years competition, and the A team ran out winners of the tournament - a great display of which the club are very proud.
In addition to this, the B team, who were generally a year younger than the other teams, pulled out some great results including a 1-1 draw against runners up, Felixstowe. These boys will have another crack at the tournament next season, and with this experience behind them will have a great chance of continuing our success in this competition.
The Bury A team was undefeated over the two rounds, winning four matches and drawing one in each round. Overall they won eight and drew two. This consistency saw them top the table although in each round another team also equalled their points tally. Felixstowe in the first round while Sudbury on home ground in the second round showed impressive form to narrowly come second on goal difference.
Throughout Bury played attractive high tempo hockey quickly moving the ball into dangerous positions. The forwards were free scoring during the tournament racking up an impressive twenty-four goals while the defence only conceded two goals throughout the tournament.
Bury was the only club to field a B team which shows the strength and depth the club has at junior level. Although not as successful as the A team they were able to compete with boys who were mainly a year older than them and put in some fine performances over the two rounds winning two and drawing two out of the ten matches they played. Again they played good attractive hockey with a competitive spirit and the ability to work together.
Both teams will compete next in the in2 hockey tournament early in the new year.
A huge well done to all of the players, coaches, officials and spectators on another great day for our youth section.
