Difficult day without a game?

As you know, we have a great many hard working individuals who carry out the necessary tasks to ensure that we have the hockey we enjoy - to those people we are extremely grateful. Days like Saturday are frustrating for many of us because due to circumstances beyond our control, we are inconvenienced by having our day disrupted as our game has been cancelled. However, spare a thought for our Fixture Secretary and Umpire Liaison Officer, Andrew Kelly.

Andrew works tirelessly behind the scenes in these roles, and without pretending to know the full extent of them, broadly speaking he is responsible for ensuring that the games are scheduled in correctly so as to avoid fixture clashes, as well as making sure that every game has umpires appointed (I am sure I have made this sound easier than it actually is). Given that we have eleven senior sides that, I am sure you will agree, is no mean feat. So whilst we are frustrated by our games not happening, imagine how this is for Andrew. Eight sides had their games cancelled on Saturday, so not only has Andrew had to organise these in the first place, he has then had to stand down those arrangements, and also has the joy of re-jigging the whole lot again in a couple of weeks time.

Given that the vast majority of this work is done away from the pitch, Andrew somewhat 'flies under the radar' as he is not always visible to us that enjoy our games. Many of us know Andrew, but for those that don't, please take a look on the Contact tab on the website - then when you do know who he is, make sure to be first in the queue to buy him a drink when you see him at the bar or coffee counter!

Thanks Andrew - your work is appreciated.
