Bury wrap up title

Bury 5’s last game of the season was a 16:00 push back at Ipswich's Tuddenham Road ground. In glorious sunshine a pre-match flat 16 shrunk to a starting bare 11. The game had serious pressure as although already promoted a win would secure the league title. Needless to say from the off there was lots of passing and open play, throughout the first half the ball zipped through the opposition but on a fast surface eluded the wide men running out more often than finding the last pass. Finally a scrum in front of the Ipswich goal line saw Ben Alberts onto the score sheet for Bury. Ipswich reacted well drawing an edge of D sliding save from the Malone in the Bury goal.

A half time team talk encouraging wider spread of the ball and using the men behind to switch play led to a more controlled second half. Andrew Swiney fired home to settle Bury’s nerves at 2-0 up. Ipswich continued to trade open passes but could not break a great team defence by Bury’s midfield bolstered by the arrival of Mark Dykes and defensive four. Several forays by Adrian Moulam and Mark Russell into the opposition half together with optimistic and energetic movement from Jimmy Hawkesworth, Andrew Swiney, Will Riddleston and Phil Rake, kept Ipswich in check seeing out the score with a 0-2 away win. An overall record of 14 wins and no losses for the season sees Bury 5ths promoted in style as league Champions.

Well done to all involved - a great effort.
