Remembering Georgia

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic passing of a member of our Hockey community; Georgia Scarff.

Georgia joined Bury Hockey Club as an under 10, when we still trained at Nowton park, quickly developing to be the skilled Goalkeeper we all knew her so well for. Georgia was a dedicated and popular member of this group, with a strong network of ‘hockey friends’. She made a positive and lasting impact on all who she knew and played with, being a wonderful teammate as well as a talented sportswoman.

Georgia’s skills and dedication led her to be an integral part of the Under 14 squad, who in the 2021/22 season travelled all over England competing in the England Hockey National Tier 2 Competition. The team secured a place in the national final held in Cambridge on April 3rd 2022, with Georgia keeping a clean sheet against the tough competition of Surbition Hockey Club – what a fantastic achievement! The game was an amazing team effort with Bury St Edmunds finishing as National Champions. All of the girls and their families involved have such wonderful memories of this journey, and the day itself; Georgia will forever be a part of this legacy for Bury Hockey Club and a goal keeping award will be created in her name to continue this legacy moving forwards.

Georgia continued from here with her hockey, establishing herself in the women’s section, playing league hockey as well as hockey for her school and showing huge potential in both. Georgia leaves a big hole in our hockey community, and all whose lives she touched.

Our thoughts are especially with her family and loved ones at this time. We know this will be a great shock to many of you, as it is such sad news to receive. We wanted to share that there will be a thanksgiving service on June 25th and Jenny (Georgia’s mum) welcomes any of Georgia's hockey friends who would like to attend to celebrate Georgia's life and all of her achievements.
