As you may or may not know, both our Mens and Ladies 6th Teams are now development teams! But do you know what that means?
The purpose of development teams are to support and encourage participation in the lowest divisions of the league. The intention is to provide experience of playing hockey within a league, giving players time to ‘learn the ropes’ when they may not yet be confident of full participation in a competitive League.
Players aged 12 can also be invited to play for these teams, providing their coaches and captains feel that are strong enough and confident enough to participate. This can really help to ease their transition into adult hockey.
Players that also play for higher teams within the club can play for development teams, to help ‘develop’ those less experienced players, and provide support!
Our Ladies 6s have played competitively all season & spring-boarded multiple young players up into the 3rd, 4th and 5th teams already.
The Mens 6s have just started out on their development team journey - a few weeks ago we saw a 67 year age gap between the oldest and youngest players on the team!!
We think these teams really highlight some of the amazing qualities of hockey as a sport, and our attitude to development & inclusivity as a club ?
