Bury ladies 1’s played Broxbourne 1’s at home on a warm, sunny day. Broxbourne came out hot putting lots of pressure for most of the half on the home side. Some great saves from Bea Woodruff early on kept Broxbourne at bay. However, pressure built the visitors took the lead with a low shot in the bottom right corner towards the end of the half. Bury took their time to find their feet and after an honest and reflective half time team talk from coach Holton, they gathered their thoughts and demonstrated their intentions with purposeful action. Broxbourne however thwarted the Bury attacks and converted early on from yet another goal from a shot corner strike across the goal. The home side still did not fire with the determination needed to make the fightback, but as the time ticked they began to awaken and were shaken into action creating threatening chances on goal. Notable attacks saw both Georgianna Coote and Arianne Dyball out skill the opposition players on multiple occasions. One of these hard hitting attacks resulted in a shot on goal from Libby Ong was rebounded and fell to a very cool, calm and collected Katie Young to flick the ball over the keeper to make the score 2-1. A renewed energy and sense of belief was notable in the home sides performance who were now dominating possession and in quick succession Bury attacked again sending shots from everywhere to goal. 'Player of the Match' Young was again on hand and moved into a perfect position to score from a deflection to equalise 2-2. The rest of the match was a tightly contested affair with physicality from both teams. Defensively some great tackles were made from Lottie Howard and Emma Smith in midfield to thwart the Broxbourne late attacks and the Bury defence stood strong whilst facing multiple short corners. Lots to look forward to in preparation for the rival away match against Ipswich 1s next weekend.
