It was a crucial day for Bury Ladies 1s as they took on Dereham Ladies 1s in a highly anticipated clash. From the first whistle, it was clear Bury was hungry, dominating possession and immediately testing the Dereham defence.
The first two quarters saw Bury’s attackers—Jen, Dominique, Libby, and Gee—taking the D by storm with relentless pressure. The team saw two goals disallowed in quick succession due to technicalities, a momentary frustration that only seemed to fuel their determined midfield and attacking unit. Despite the score remaining locked at 0 - 0 heading into halftime, the momentum was all Bury's.
The third quarter began with renewed focus and energy from the home side. The shift immediately paid off. Within minutes, a fantastic passage of attacking play saw the ball fall to Dominique, who slotted it home to give Bury the crucial 1 - 0 lead!
Bury refused to sit back, keeping the tempo high with fast-paced attacks. While the defence easily swept aside any rare Dereham counter-attacks, the midfield and attack combined for some fantastic carries that resulted in a flurry of penalty corners. Although the corners didn't translate directly onto the scoreboard, the relentless pressure they created was unsustainable for Dereham.
This constant wave of attack broke the Dereham defence once more. Following a shot that rebounded sharply off the goalie, Dominique was in the perfect position to dibble the ball home, securing her brace and doubling Bury’s lead to 2 - 0.
The final whistle blew, confirming a well-deserved 2 - 0 victory for Bury Ladies 1s.
This marks the team’s first win of the season and, as the squad knows, the definitive start of their imminent winning streak. Let the winning continue!
