Ladies 1's win away at Colchester

Hard fought away win at Colchester Garrison

Bury faced bottom of the league Colchester in a rainy away fixture looking to build on last weeks win.

The away team started with clear intent but were unable to create any chances early on and then suffered a set back by conceding to Colchester with their first attack after four minutes. This stirred the Bury team to respond and after nine minutes Ella Dowling scored a a spectacular reverse stick shot into the corner of the goal to make it 1-1. Bury were looking more in control and enjoyed a good spell of possession, however, they had to defend three short corners in quick succession in the nineteenth minute with Georgina Kelly making key final block to clear the danger. After twenty four minutes a well worked move down the left wing saw Jet Konrath find Mazz Chapman who crossed the ball fiercely across the D to find Jessica Konrath who steered the ball home to give the visitors a well deserved lead. Bury created more chances and went close with efforts from Lydia Evans and Dom Dyball but in the closing stages of the half there was a break in play for a Colchester injury and on the restart the home team advanced all the way upfield and found an unmarked player in the D to slot away to make it 2-2.

Eager to regain the lead Bury created a chance straight from the pushback with a short corner opportunity struck well but just wide by Sara Havers. They kept up the pressure and after thirty seven minutes Ella Dowling scored again steering home a ball whipped into the D from midfield. Colchester rallied and tried to get into the game but the Bury defence mopped up all of their attacks, Georgie Darby playing a key role with several interceptions. Bury continued to press looking to extend their lead but the Colchester keeper made good saves from Daisy Alfred-Allen, Ella Dowling and Dom Dyball. The home team were kept busy in defence right up to the final whistle with the game ending 2-3.

Bury deserved their back to back away wins and maybe could have won this one more convincingly.
