Bury got the New Year off to a flying start after the Christmas break, when Farpost Fiskie found himself unusually in a more central position in the D from where he dispatched the ball into the net and Bury were 1-0 up after 4 minutes.
Both teams shared much of the ball throughout the much of the half. Ipswich’s reward came in the 27 minute when they scored their equaliser.
The teams went into the break all even.
Ipswich started the second half more invigorated and played a faster flowing game and their second goal came rather fortuitously as a the ball ricocheted into the goal from a flailing Ipswich stick even to the surprise of the scorer.
This took the wind out of the Bury sails, and in return Ipswich’s confidence grew, and coupled with their speedy and youthful midfield they completed their victory with their third goal with 10 minutes remaining.
On a brighter note it was great to see David Chiang & Barry Snell back playing hockey again after a long absence.
