Unbeaten blues win the day

Today saw the In2Hockey Suffolk tournament held at Ipswich Hockey Club on an afternoon when the weather was predicted to be wet and windy. Bury were the only club to field two teams which shows the depth the junior section has. The first match was a derby clash with Bury Blue taking on the second squad of Bury Orange. This was a tight competitive game with both teams wanting to have the bragging rights. Bury Blue could not sustain the pressure on the Orange team as they too tried to press the Blues in the midfield. Both teams had good breaks and opportunities to score but it was the Blue team which broke the deadlock with a well worked goal from the forwards after having a goal disallowed. The final score was 1-0 to Bury Blue.

The next game was against a Sudbury team who had played well in the last round of the Suffolk Youth League. Bury Blue kept the tempo high from the beginning and were soon in the lead with again the forwards combining well. Bury began to dominate scoring 2 further goals before Sudbury replied with an outstanding goal of their own.

Buoyed by this victory Bury Blue then faced the tournament hosts Ipswich. Continuing on from the last match Bury Blue soon took control dominating the midfield and applying constant pressure on Ipswich defence. This resulted in the team scoring six unanswered goals including the Ipswich keeper kicking in an own goal and a penalty flick.

After a short break came the final game against IES who had also won all of their matches including a feisty encounter with Bury Orange. In the opening exchanges both teams sort to gain control of the midfield with Bury Blue scoring a well work goal followed by a second. Although Bury kept pressing forward they could not breach the well drilled IES defence.

Goal scorers for the blues were Ollie Dalzell, Noah Fenn, James Green, Oliver Croot and Guy Manley; and for the orange team the goal scorers where Rhys Whiting and Harry Wells..
