Match report:
With a full squad of players, including Sudbury guest players (we were initially expecting not to have enough for a team, so used the EH rule on guest players) we travelled to City of Peterborough for our 3rd cup match this season. The boys started tentatively on the slippery, sandy pitch, with the home team taking full advantage and going up 1-0 after only 4 minutes. This galvanised the boys into action and passes started to flow across the pitch, with Cameron Ford and Henry Green feeding balls into Ben Smart for him to score the equaliser after 9 minutes. Boys kept the pressure on, and despite several short corners for Peterborough, which were excellently thwarted by Max Woods in goal, Ben score a second goal 20 minutes into the match. Peterborough started applying some pressure and managed to score a 2nd goal just before half time. Henry Green got injured just before half time when a Peterborough player completely missed the ball and hit Henry’s shoulder instead, which kept him out for 25 minutes in 2 second half. Bury started the second half with more pressure and more pace resulting in Ben’s 3rd goal on minute 41. Strong defence from Henry Derbyshire, Max Chapman and Sudbury’s Joe Griss kept Peterborough’s attack under control and the boys then fed the ball via Sam Slark-Hollis on the right and Ollie Dalzell (still U12 boys player) on the left though to the Lucas Nicolai, William Daniel and a recovered Henry Green to set up Ben Smart for his 4th goal of the match 60 minutes.
Some final attacks from Peterborough were turned away from goal by Nikolaj Winter, with Bury coming away with a well deserved 4-2.
This cements their place at the top of their division and should be enough to secure a place in the area finals in May.
Thanks to Mikey Thompson and Caroline Daniel for expertly coaching th team to victory!
