Bury St Edmunds 4s produced a tremendous performance against what on paper, looked to be the stronger side.
From the first whistle, Bury knew they would need resilience and discipline, and they delivered exactly that. Framlingham dominated much of the first half, applying sustained pressure and forcing Bury to dig deep defensively. Despite several promising pushes forward from Bury, the home team controlled possession for long spells. Their breakthrough came via a short corner, where a somewhat fortunate strike found the back of the net, sending Framlingham into the break 1–0 ahead.
There were moments of attacking intent, including a particularly difficult chance for Izzy Godfreu, who was denied by an advancing goalkeeper who closed her down well to prevent the equaliser.
Bury had already recognised the importance of a solid defensive structure, and their back line worked tirelessly throughout the half to contain repeated attacks.
The second half told a different story. Bury emerged with renewed confidence and composure, clearly having found their rhythm. The defensive unit remained strong and organised, while the forward line pressed higher and with greater purpose. Their persistence paid off when Bury earned a thoroughly deserved goal to level the score at 1–1 — well delivered by Fran- a reward for their tenacity and improved second-half performance.
Special mention must go to Izzy Godrfey, who showed outstanding courage and commitment. After taking a heavy blow to the face from the goalkeeper in the second half, she unfortunately had to retire from play.
Numerous excellent saves by Kerry Woods kept Bury in play and kudos to her for her effort throughout.
Overall, this was an excellent performance. Bury showed stamina, unity, and belief against a side many would have expected to come out on top. The 1–1 draw felt richly deserved and stands as a strong result for Bury St Edmunds 4s. A real team effort and well done to all involved.
