The team started a bit shaky, many new faces in the team and they hadn’t yet had a chance to practice or play as a team. Within 5 minutes the boys faces a Bedford short corner which was superbly dealt with by the defence and on song goalie Nikolaj Winter. This jolted the team in to action and they started more confidently moving the ball around the pitch and targeting the Bedford D. Thirty minutes into the game Bury won a short corner from which Ben Smart found the back of the goal. Sadly it was disallowed as the ball hadn’t travelled out of the D. First half finished 0-0 but Bury definitely had the upper hand most of the time, Bedford created some good scoring chances but with strong defence from Henry Derbyshire and Max Chapman and some superb saves by GK Nikolaj they kept a clean sheet .
In the second half Ben Smart, Mauritz Frohn, Will Bettley kept attacking the D with balls being fed to them from the sides. This resulted in an excellent goal from Ben Smart.
With 5 minutes left to play Bedford upped the pressure and took their goalie off in favour of an additional field player, initially this had the desired effect and Bedford advanced towards the Bury D on several occasions. A fabulous clearance from the back line tees up the attack with Sam Slark-Hollis slotting the ball into open goal with 2 minutes left to play. A well deserved win for a team that’s showing great potential.
