Boys secure 3-0 at St Neots

The U16 boys travelled to St Neots to try and secure a second win in their England Hockey Championship competition. Their practice match against a combined team of men’s 2/3/4th the previous Sunday definitely helped the team to gel, within seconds they were already in the opposition D and threatening the goal. After a tussle in the D Ben Smart slotted home the first goal with only 4.30 minutes on the clock.
Strong defence from the back line of Max Chapman, Henry Derbyshire and captain Cameron Ford kept the St Neots team at bay. The arial passes from Cameron and Ben Smart proved effective. Lucas Nicolai on the right wing and Will Daniel on the left were very successful passing balls into the D. Both Will Holton and Ben Alberts narrowly missed scoring the second goal. Showing some impressive skills Mauritz Frohn kept trying to get the ball into the D, unfortunately not all his attempts were successful in finding a team mate. Ben Smart kept moving forward from midfield into the D and on 29 minutes scored his second goal.
Coach Rob Neale kept the boys focussed for the second half . Matthew Hawker made some crucial tackles in midfield and moved the ball into the D . Ben Alberts managed to find the nets 27 minutes into the second half, putting the game out of reach. The St Neots defenders were kept busy and tried clearing the D using arial shots to try push Bury back. Keeper Nikolaj Winter was tested a few times in the second half but was more than up for the challenge keeping a clean sheet. The boys should now move into second place in the tables.
