The U16 Girls reassembled for Round 2 of the England Hockey Cup Competition with a few changes which saw the return of Georgia Wishlade, Abi Bushell and Imi Callghan to the team.
Captained by Georgia the team took on Cambridge City who have always proved to be strong opposition. Bury started well defending strongly, maintaining good possession in mid and creating some good chances up front.
The first goal came quickly from Arabella within 10 mins which was quickly followed up by another from Imi 3 minutes later. Bury continued to dominate, passing the ball fluidly and using the pitch well. This led to several chances including a lovely strike from Georgia in the 25th minute taking the team to 3-0. With only one sub to hand, as opposed to the 4 subs for Cambridge the team tired towards the end of the 1st half resulting in Cambridge scoring in the 32nd minute. Bury had a good chance to score again off a short corner in the dying seconds of the half but unfortunately the ball crept outside of the D and the 1st half came to an end.
After half time team talk with Bibby the team headed into the 2nd half 3-1 up. Within 5 mins of the half Bury won another short corner which saw Katie score a flicked shot from the post in the 40th minute onto the backboard after injecting out to Georgia. Bury continued to press well through the 2nd half, however, Cambridge began to fight back which led to them score 2 further goals in the 54th and 60th minute. With 10 minutes to go Bury stayed resolute and held their nerve working well together as a team, with some great defending from the whole team. Finally, the clock ticked down and the whistle blew, and it was 4-3 to Bury on ‘all hallows winning eve’.
We reassemble on 21st of November for Round 3 of the Cup Competition.
