Goals in abundance successfully hunted down in Felixstowe

The ladies 5s were blown down the A14 early Saturday morning for the first game of the morning with Felixstowe 3s, but the inclement weather didn’t deter our structured warm ups and drills early morning.

The opposition down a goal keeper but 11 players on pitch our Bury ladies were a little confused with what type of game to bring.

Felixstowe pass back, our centre forward Fran Clear bolted straight off the start line trailing the ball startling the opposition and giving a ‘clear’ message we were a determined side.

Finding our rhythm in the first 10 minutes a run up the right hand side of the pitch by Charlotte Garner past two defenders and fast slap hit from the top of the D gave us our first goal of what will prove to be a great result.

All forwards were very determined to get their names on the scoreboard taking advantage of have no goalie. Hanging high in the oppositions half Fran Clear picked up a badly stopped ball by Felixstowe to make goal 2. Not long after, a great pass from Hayley Wighton to Devone Kennedy in the D saw goal 3 and another from Devonne Kennedy after a run up right side of the pitch to make goal 4. And just before half time goal 5 came from another great touch from Fran Clear through the feet of the defender.

Sprits obviously high with a 5-0 lead we started the second half with the aim of ‘making-the-ball-do-the-work’ hockey and using the width of the pitch aiming for longer and more accurate passing.

This tactic worked well for us Bury ladies, Georgie Northeast-Roffey came on the pitch and dominated the mid position passing wide to wingers and making herself available in the D getting 4 goals under her belt. Felixstowe energy levels were depleting rapidly and seeing the score line get further away from them Bury forwards made the most of this opportunity and Devonne Kennedy sunk 2 more goals in along with another 1 from Fran Clear making the final score 11-0. Bury ladies 5s biggest goal difference all season.

With this good bit of confidence behind us looking forward to next week’s game knowing that we CAN score goals and lots of them if we really work together.
