The game started well for the ladies with early attacks and a short corner, which the keeper ably saved. A second short corner followed which was injected well by Fran Clear to find Mel Podd at left castle for a straight strike sent straight down the barrel of the left inside of the goal.

Play continued well for the ladies with lots of build-up of play. The next short corner found Sarah Wills at top D to send her shot in, which was blocked by the Keeper, picked up on the rebound and slotted in by Fran Clear.

A 3rd followed from another short corner, this was a deflection, slotted in by Sarah Wills (Willsy).

Half time a score of 3-0.

The second half started well with plenty more joined up play and chances, with the forwards working well together. A slip in from Fran Clear found Amy Kiddie with the ball in front of the keeper, which she put away.

Mel Podd received the ball on the wing and drove towards the D, while Amy Kiddie switched inside for Mel to slip the ball to. Amy sent a crack of a hit in to find a defenders foot for a further PC award. With Fran off at the time, Mel jumped into inject, sending the ball to find Willsy at top D. Willsy held the ball well while the runners came out and slipped the ball let to Mel who had dropped into left post for a first-time slap to cement the 5th goal for the ladies and her second of the game.

This was a really strong performance for the team in a game that felt like everything just slotted into place. Our formation, presses and defence all just worked well. The general play of the team was superb from the marking, the passing and the transfers, set up by Janie Harrington and Jane Dryland. It was very rewarding to see our short corners come to fruition after the time and work we have put into them.

Player of the match was a very split matter with lots of players getting a mention, reflecting how well everyone played and a full team performance. Willsy also should get a mention for being the assist on all of the other goals. The gong ultimately went to Becky Mayers who had a sterling game in Centre Back, driving up through the pitch, working well with the sweeper and other mids to completely take the middle of the field out of the game for our opponents.

Next week sees the ladies take on IES at home.
