3-3 draw away against Colchester 4s 23 Nov 2024

The ladies battled wind and rain in a game overshadowed with a dark foreboding sky.

The game started strong for the Bury ladies with good joined up play. Colchester put their own strong attacks in with some early tests of stand-in keeper Jane Dryland, which she ably dispatched.

Bury players put in some good passing to find Sarah Wills, passing to Katie Green outside of the D on the left, who quickly bobbled the ball into a crowded D to find Kathryn Mitchell. Kathryn flicked the ball behind her, heading for the gap between the keepers legs. Devonne Kennedy dived in to put a one-time slap on the pass the make sure and secure Bury's first of the game.

Colchester retaliated and sunk their own after drilling around Bury's defence and finding a gap beneath the keepers feet, taking the score to 1-1 at half time.

After a rousing 1/2 time talk, Bury took to the pitch invigorated and ready to go and put their keeper under some pressure. Sarah Wills struck at goal with a ball that bounced off the keeper. Kathryn Mitchell grabbed the rebound and sent that into goal with a lovely flick.

Bury played some great passing, which saw the ball move from Sweeper Janie Harrington up pitch in 5 passes to create a shot on goal and provide the ladies with another short corner opportunity.

A drive up pitch on the right hand side saw a slip into Kathryn who slipped the ball to Dev positioned in front of their keeper to swipe that in for Bury's third of the game.

Colchester responded to both goals and managed to secure a second, a great short corner strike and final third, a multi pass goal in the last few moments, taking the final score to 3-3 and Buy's second draw of the season.

Over-all a good game for Bury's 5th, despite not securing the win, with passing being the hero of the day.

Player of the match was another split affair with votes spread around. Special mentions were made for Jane Dryland stepping into the keepers kit for a second game, and Dev Kennedy for her linked up work with Kathryn Mitchell, but the over-all gong went to Connie Gardner in her first game for the 5th team who had a sterling outing holding the left back in place.

The ladies keep their top spot in the table, and next week sees them take on Sudbury 3s at Home.
