In an entertaining match in less than summery weather, the youthful speed and energy of the IES Red team clashed with the “experienced” potential of the BSEHC squad in their first outing together. IES, fuelled by a potent mix of energy drinks (I assume) and youthful enthusiasm, darted around the field with the early advantage and first goal going to them. Yet, BSHEC, despite the new formation and pre-game talk that no one understood, showcased flashes of brilliance and a few breakaways that kept them us in the game and ended the first half all square (great solo effort from Dog with the rest of the team making runs to open a part to the D).

Opportunities to score were as plentiful after the brief halftime rain shower, with IES making several impressive attempts that sent Sullivan Jnr into overdrive. Both sides played with commendable sportsmanship, exchanging smiles and pats on the back as frequently as they exchanged possession. Dog even took time out from his busy evening to help explain the rules to the IES umpire. The light rain shower at halftime added an extra zip to the game.

In the end, IES’s youthful advantage proved decisive with two late goals in the second half, but BSEHC debut promised a bright future and lots to take away for the next game.
