Bury's development team traveled to Ipswich in the first big freeze outing of the season. IES came out strong from the offset, with a determined attitude around getting some goals in. Early breaks from quick running players found Bury under pressure and caught out as IES managed to put two in the back of the box in quick succession. Bury then settled and reassessed their approach to defending which led to a much more balanced game. Chances were created with the now familiar build-up and linked up play from Imogen Grove to feed balls into Lizzie, Flo and Sophia Bartram.
Post the break IES again came out strong, but the defending team of Adele Newberry, Emily Denney, Mel Podd and GK Charlotte Whiting stood strong at the back thwarting further attempts and successfully defending plenty of penalty corners. Bury’s midfielders worked hard, seeing Roxy Jones, Imogen Grove, Sara Foster and Charlotte Garner tracking back and just as quickly, turning and attacking as opportunities presented themselves.
The final whistle signed the end of the game, with IES taking the win with their 2 goals. This was a good outing for Bury, a thoroughly enjoyable game and some great individual performances across the squad but the ultimate gong for Player of the Match was taken by Charlotte Garner.
